When the chips are down

Been in a funky mood lately? Tired of being tired? Do you want to give up, because you don’t see things getting any better? You are not alone! So many people all over the world are experiencing the same feelings as you, and are unsure what to do. A part of them want to believe things are going to change for the better, but they’re not so hopeful. In fact, not only have they lost hope, they’ve become faithless, because everything seems to keep going from bad to worse.

COVID has taken over. The death toll keeps rising. People have lost their jobs. The economy is in shambles, and so are you. Matthew 26:6 tells us that, “You will be hearing of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not frightened, for those things must take place, but that is not yet the end”. This pandemic has launched a full on war against the world, but it is not the end of it! I know you want a more concrete answer, but it’s the best one I’ve got. I too, don’t understand why things are happening as they are, but according to His word, they have too.

“What’s next”? The question that seems to be on everyone’s mind, and honestly speaking, its to pray! Simple as that, yet so hard for many people to do. Why? Because, they don’t have the faith to stand on and the hope to believe that what they ask for, will come to pass. After all, why should they, when nothing’s happening? Oh, but there is! Just because you can’t see God working, doesn’t mean that He’s not.

Listen, I feel where you’re coming from. There are days that I get down and ask God “Why”? Or, “When will this end”? I’ve got questions just like you, but I’ve got faith in Him as well. At this moment, you’re going through it, but eventually you’ll come out. The chips are down now, but I pray they won’t be much longer.

Focus on the promise, not the problem

People lie, God doesn’t. People change their mind, but God stands firm on His. People make promises they don’t intend to keep, but God fulfills them all.

He didn’t say it’d be easy, but He did promise to “Strengthen and help us”. (Isaiah 41:10)

He didn’t say the path would be smooth, but He did promise to “Direct ours, if only we’d put our trust in Him”. (Proverbs 3:5-6)

He didn’t say the weapons wouldn’t form, but He did promise “They wouldn’t prosper”. (Isaiah 54:17)

He didn’t say we wouldn’t cry out for help, but He did promise to “Hear our cries and deliver us from our troubles”. (Psalms 34:17)

He didn’t say we wouldn’t face oppression, but He did promise to “Be a stronghold in our times of trouble”. (Psalms 9:9)

There are a lot of things that God “didn’t say”, but one thing’s for certain, He did say He’d make GOOD on His promises! That should be our focus, NOT our problems!

Yes, you can

You don’t have the resources to start a business, so you don’t move forward. You want to go back to school, but you’re not sure where to start, so you just quit. You want to buy a house, but your credit is low and you don’t have the down payment. There are so many things you want to do, yet for whatever reason, you’re holding back. You’ve come up with a thousand excuses as to why you can’t, yet I can give you one good reason why you can. “You can do all things in Christ who strengthens you”. If He wants you to have a business, He’ll provide the resources. If He wants you to go to school, He’ll give you the start and see you to the end. You want to be a homeowner? He wants you to be one too, so He’s going to make a way for you. Remember, we are heirs to His Kingdom, His rich Kingdom, so of course He’s going to give you the absolute best! God is with you in everything that you do, so the next time you choose to do something, remember, because of Him, YOU CAN!

Covered

I’m still in a state of shock, and can’t believe this has somehow managed to become our “new normal”. I thought it so bizarre and strange when Michael Jackson used to wear a face mask and gloves out in public, but who knew we’d have to one day do the same. The things we used to complain and grumble about getting rid of, are now the things we complain and grumble about wanting. Let’s face it, we want that old “thang” back! We miss the life we used to have, because it was better than the one we have now. It feels like we are living out the scenes of one of Stephen King’s horror movie, and we’re afraid, because we all know they never ended well. However, the good thing about our situation, is that God is both our Writer and Director. He writes our story and directs our paths, so I know the path to healing and getting rid of COVID-19 is not too far away. He has us covered, and because of that, we should be able to find peace and comfort in the midst of this storm!

The Return

The number one thing that most people dread, particularly women, is going to the store to return an item they bought. Rather than go through the hassle of standing in line for a refund, they instead choose to keep what they have, even though it doesn’t fit. I’m sure all of us can relate to this in some way or another. How many times have we held on to people and things that simply didn’t “fit” us? They don’t benefit us in any kind of way, yet we don’t want to get rid of them. Like those jeans we can’t get into, we’ll keep them as our motivation to lose the excess weight, but the only weight we need to lose, is that of those who aren’t good for us. I’m sure you invest a lot in your clothes (I know I do), but it’s nothing compared to the investment you make into the lives of people who aren’t “worth” it. No matter how much time you “spend” on someone, be careful, because it’s the one thing that can never be “returned”.

Glad

No matter what’s going on in the world, I’m glad that we’re still a part of it. Despite me working remotely, I’m just glad to be working, because a lot of people are unemployed. Chaos surrounds us and things looks as though they are quickly going from bad to worse, but I’m glad that our best is yet to come. A lot of people were practicing social distancing years before COVID-19, by holding grudges and not speaking or visiting their family. However, I’m glad the pandemic has drawn so many people closer to their families and God. Although the death tolls keep rising as high as Mount Everest, and essential resources are becoming extinct like dinosaurs, I’m just glad God hasn’t forgotten about us. He never has and He never will. If you’ve lost hope, you don’t believe it. But, if you have faith, you can already see it. And, I can see Him bringing an end to this virus…..soon!

Stay safe and be strong. Help is on the way!

Now is not the time

I want to be married, right now! I want a set of identical twin girls, right now! I want my house built from the ground up, right now! I want to be an Academic Dean, right now! I want to cut the ribbon for the grand opening of my business, CH1 Bookstore and Lounge, right now! There are so many things I want “right now”, but now is not the time! Ecclesiastes 3:1 tells us, “For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under the sun”, and when the time is right, it’ll happen. Not just a little bit, but all of it! When it comes to things I want or would like to do, my pursuit is undeniably fervent. Being eager is a good thing, but it’s also my problem. I can’t stay where I’m at long enough to enjoy what I have or get what I need, because I’m always on the move. “I gotta move, because God ain’t”. I gotta move, before someone else beats me to it”. I gotta move, because if I don’t act now, the opportunity won’t come again”. But, if it’s mine, it’ll return. Needless to say, I gotta keep moving. However, I can’t go anywhere until God tells me to! When I feel as though He’s not moving fast enough, I intervene and try to speed up the process, but He always brings me to a complete standstill, and I can’t stand that! Don’t you see, I can’t afford to stop? If I do, it’ll delay my mission, but if I don’t, God will abort it. So, I might as well wait. Besides, I can’t accelerate, until He releases the brake. When it’s time for me to go, I will. But, now is not the time!

Until next “time” my NOTE takers!

On a lighter note…

A colleague and friend of mine, sent me an email that contained a powerful message about four lit candles. One candle represented peace, and the others, faith, love and hope. Each one of them had a specific purpose, but they were unable to serve it, because no one had peace, they lacked faith and didn’t understand the importance of love, so they all lost their flame. However, the last candle that remained, was hope. Because of its unwavering power, it kept burning and was able to relight the others. We all have those four candles planted deep inside of us, but some people have allowed their hardships, life experiences and winds of doubt, to blow their flames completely out. They’ve lost their spark, and couldn’t set themselves ablaze, even if they wanted too. So many bad things has happened to them, therefore, they’ve become weak, hopeless and can’t find positivity in anything. They don’t see a way out, and their life has become very dim. Because they lack the ability to shine, you have to be the light in the midst of their darkness. You are their candle of hope! Whatever you do, never stop burning, because your fire can reignite their flame!

The coast is clear

Timidity does not come from God, yet so many of us are debilitated by it. We can’t move forward, because we’re paralyzed with fear and the uncertainty of whether or not we’ll get what we’re after. Rather than step out on faith, we step back into the shadows of doubt, because we know what to expect while there. We strategize and proclaim that “this is the day”, yet we don’t do anything but allow it to pass us by. Let’s face it, we aren’t moving until we know what lies ahead. Luckily, God goes before us to make sure the coast is clear, before we proceed with His plan and will for our lives. He’s not going to allow us to walk into anything that wasn’t meant for us, or would bring forth harm. Don’t be afraid to fulfill your calling or dreams, because you’re afraid. Remember, God cleared and paved the way for us, so there’s no need to proceed with caution. He already took care of it, and He’ll take care of us too!

Happy Resurrection (Easter) Sunday

Good Morning wonderful people! I’m so thankful we arose today, because He arose over 2,000 years ago! I’m grateful for His sacrifice, love, grace, mercy and just knowing He’s always there, even when I feel alone. If you’re feeling lonely, don’t be. You’re in the presence of the best company you could ever have! Enjoy your day (this day), and remember these two words: Who and What. In order for us to be who we are, He had to do what was necessary!

Until next time my NOTE takers!
