Defender behind me (I won’t fear)

The weapons will form, but they won’t prosper. You’ll be attacked, but you won’t be harmed. God serves as your shield and takes all the hits, so you won’t ever feel them. When people scheme to “take you out”, God derails their plans leaving them in dismay and questioning why you’re “still here”. People will fight you, but they won’t win. I don’t care who you are, your social status or how much money you have. Unfortunate things will happen to you, but fortunately, God will put you in a position to overcome them. No matter who or what you’re up against, you have a Defender behind you. He’ll always have your back, so there’s no need to fear!

The coast is clear

Timidity does not come from God, yet so many of us are debilitated by it. We can’t move forward, because we’re paralyzed with fear and the uncertainty of whether or not we’ll get what we’re after. Rather than step out on faith, we step back into the shadows of doubt, because we know what to expect while there. We strategize and proclaim that “this is the day”, yet we don’t do anything but allow it to pass us by. Let’s face it, we aren’t moving until we know what lies ahead. Luckily, God goes before us to make sure the coast is clear, before we proceed with His plan and will for our lives. He’s not going to allow us to walk into anything that wasn’t meant for us, or would bring forth harm. Don’t be afraid to fulfill your calling or dreams, because you’re afraid. Remember, God cleared and paved the way for us, so there’s no need to proceed with caution. He already took care of it, and He’ll take care of us too!

Not yours to keep

Why struggle, when you don’t have to? Why live in agony and pain, when you have someone capable of taking it all away? Why carry such heavy burdens, when God can lighten your load? Why worry about tomorrow, when you don’t know the outcome of today? You’ve grown weary from pleading for help, and because you’re tired of praying, you give up. But, have you given it over to God? In life, you’re going to be met with adversities and oppositions, but you’ve got to introduce them to Him, so they can see who’s bigger! When your problems can’t intimidate God, they come after you! I know you’re thinking, “I got this”, but how can you have something that you can’t even handle? You’re out of your lane and most definitely out of your mind, if you think you can do anything better than God. Let go, and stop holding on to things that are trying to destroy you. That can be very hard and challenging, because when He’s “slow to act”, we’re quick to take it back, and the pain comes back once again. Cast all your burdens upon God, because they’re not yours to keep! Those are His problems, let Him deal with it!

Wait on the promise

I don’t know which is worse, waiting on something to happen or waiting on someone to make it happen. Either way, I can be pretty antsy at times and hate to be kept waiting, especially considering the length of my wait time. The uncertainty of whether or not I’ll get what I want hoovers over my head like an aircraft, but when I look up and see who’s flying, my doubts starts to wither away. In past situations, I’ve moved too quickly, when I all I needed to do was slow down and “be still”. Besides, my hastiness never got me anywhere. I learned all to well, that if what you are seeking to do is not of God’s will, then it won’t get done! It doesn’t matter how bad you want it or how much you petition God for it, if He didn’t promise it, you won’t receive it, regardless of whatever it is. And sometimes, it’s best that we don’t get “it“. Getting what we want versus having what we need, makes all the difference in the world. I don’t care how impatient you are or how discouraged you get, thinking “it’s” never going to happen. It will, but all in God’s timing. His promises are still good! All we have to do is wait on Him!

Sidelined

During recreation time in elementary school, I hated when our PE Teacher would select two people and allow them to pick who would make their team. Almost every time, I would either be picked last or left out. It wasn’t that I wasn’t capable of being a teamplayer, but the team didn’t have the confidence or faith that I could bring anything of value to what was already in existence. Therefore, they sidelined me. You see, it was never about me not being any good, because in all honesty, they knew I was the most valuable player. They saw something in me that they lacked and wanted for themselves, but since they knew there was no way they’d ever get it, they tried to take it out of me.

People don’t know your true value, but they do know you’re worth a lot. This not only intimidates them, but it creates fear, because the minute people notice you, suddenly, they become invisible. In an attempt to not allow you to shine, they’ll dim your light, by speaking negatively to you (in hopes of stopping you from succeeding) and of you. At this point, they don’t care that the attention is on you, because it’s no good anyway. Now, no one cares about what you have to offer, because your critics have offered them every reason as to why they shouldn’t like you, let alone pick you. You’re going to come across people like this, and although they will try to sideline you, don’t allow them to eject you from the game. If you do, no one will ever get to see how amazing you truly are!

Keep being great! Sooner or later, everyone’s going to want you on their team!

Comfort

Today, I needed a pair of arms. Not just any arms, but His arms. It’s just something about them. They bring me joy, peace, protection, but most of all, comfort. No matter what I go through or am up against, God has a way of wrapping me in His loving arms, and reassuring me that everything is going to be alright, and you know what? They are!

Find peace in knowing you can go to Him for anything, and He’ll bring you the comfort and relief you are seeking!

Walk in peace

The COVID-19 pandemic is running rapidly, but so is God. You might not think He’s working, but He is, even when everyone’s done for the day. In fact, He hasn’t taken a break since this outbreak. He’s moving, even when it seems the world is standing still. He’s already worked things out, as we sit and try to figure out, what next? I know you think He doesn’t care, but 1 Peter 5:7 tells us that He does. “Well, He’s says He loves us, but I can’t tell. Look at what’s going on”! Whether you believe or not, He knows exactly what’s going on and He’s going to take care of it! Let Him do what He knows how to do, and you need to trust that it’ll get done!

Be well, exercise precaution, but most importantly, activate your FAITH!

Swimming against the currents

There’s a state of emergency, and the reality of you not making it, is scarier than the trouble you’re in. Panic and fear have arrived, but your help is nowhere to be found. Although it’s scary, it’s a place that’s all too familiar. You’ve been here before, but you’re not sure how you managed to sink again. In fact, you’re not only sinking, you’re drowning. “Help me”, is all you can say, because you can’t do anything else. It’s so tiring trying to stay afloat, when your body wants to give way, because you don’t see a way. You don’t see yourself making it, because you promised the last time, would be the last time. Yet, you’re here again. But, guess what? It’s okay, because He’s with you, and has been all along. When you found yourself going under, it wasn’t because you were drowning. You were being refined, “dipped” and made stronger. You felt weakened, during your times of despair. But, to Him, they were mere moments of endurance. Despite the heavy currents, you continued to swim against them! And because of that, you survived once again!

When the billows roll, no matter how high they get, remember, there’s someone higher than them!

Struggling to succeed

You’re looking at a lifeless situation, but not to the One who can help

You’ve tried to do things on your own, but you can’t do it all by yourself

The hill of burdens sits so high, and you’re afraid to make the climb

You’ve attempted before, but you didn’t succeed, so you don’t see the point in trying

Winds of doubt surround your faith, and threaten to blow it away

So run for cover, into the arms who loves you, and promises to keep you safe

Defeat shines brighter than the sun’s beam, and it’s more than you can withstand

But all it takes if for God to speak, and it disappears upon His command

It may seem as though you’ve lost, but look again, for you’ve been deceived

No matter what you’re up against, you’ll win, if only you just believe

Legacy Awards 2020 Recipient of the Coretta Scott King Award

On Sunday, February 09, 2020, I was awarded the Coretta Scott King Legacy Award, for my Community Service, Human Rights, and Social Justice efforts. As I should have been overjoyed with excitement, I really couldn’t be, because I was too busy questioning God, “Why me”? When my sisters recognized me at our family reunion last year, I was honored, but internally, I questioned “There’s four of us, so why me”? When I was asked to serve as Keynote Speaker at church, I screamed, “Oh no! Dear God, why me”? I couldn’t fathom or understand how someone so undeserving as me, deserved to be recognized, because in my eyes, what they saw, I couldn’t see.

Not a day goes by that I don’t receive an email, text or phone call, from someone thanking me for what I’ve done for them, yet I can’t seem to recall what I did. There isn’t anything distinctive that comes to mind, except there’s nothing extraordinary about a woman who’s so ordinary. So, again I ask, “Why me”? After many self-reflections, I no longer question, “Why me”? Instead, I just thank God for using me! I’m not sure why I was chosen, when He had so many other options, yet He left me with none. I didn’t get a chance to say, “No”, or “This is not what I want to do”, because God had already made His plans, and I had no choice, but to follow them.

I’m grateful, because of whatever “it” is that I’ve been called to do. I’m thankful for all the accolades and praise, because to them, I’m everything I told myself I could never be….WORTHY!

Until next time my NOTE takers!
