This is why

“Are you still coming?” Was the text I received yesterday, prior to me attending the pinning ceremony for one of my mentees and former Nursing students. “Of course, I’m still coming to help you celebrate your big day,” I replied. Much to my surprise, I had no clue when I arrived, I’d be pinning her! “Are you serious?” I asked, because I couldn’t believe the request, let alone honor she bestowed upon me. “Yes, she replied. When they call your name, walk down front and meet me by the stage.”

When the emcee stated, “Will Deetra Benn, Mentor and Motivator (for nursing student) please come forward.” I was beaming with joy, because I was proud of her accomplishment, and I knew the adversities and hurdles she had to overcome to make it there. I kept thinking, “This is why God has assigned me to do what I do. This is why He uses me to motivate, encourage and inspire others.”

It’s tough at times pouring into others, when you’re almost empty, but I don’t take what I do for granted, because at the end of the day, it’s always about them and never me. Besides, you never know the impact you can have on a person’s life just by being there.

Until next time my NOTE takers!
