Today I attended a medical symposium, and was blown away by the wealth of information received. No, I’m not switching professions, but my current one does involve me working with animal healthcare professionals quite often. While in one of the sessions, one of the Veterinarians was sharing a story on what prompted her to pursue a career in veterinary medicine, and the road she traveled to get there. While on her way, she met a gentlemen who was entering into the program just as she was. However, he wasn’t just any gentlemen, but a 55-year-old one. She was very surprised and commended him, because after so many years of waiting, he decided to pursue a life-long dream, as opposed to settling for someone else’s. Not only was he determined and driven to do well, he did. He didn’t allow his age, or the fact that he was surrounded by people young enough to be his children and grandchildren, to intimidate him or cause him to question himself or lose focus. Now, if that isn’t “goals” I don’t know what is.
If you’re contemplating going back to school, starting a business, or struggling with the idea that you’re “too old” and have waited too long, let this be confirmation that you aren’t. That Veterinarian waited 55 years to do what he dreamed of; don’t let your dream die, because you choose to use your age as a hindrance, instead of a catalyst.
Until next time my NOTE takers!
