A couple of nights ago, I was conversing with one of my former students, as she detailed her struggles and being led from one school to the next. On the brink of fulfilling a life-long dream, she had a few hiccups, which resulted in her falling behind. Rather than allow her unfortunate situation to bring her down, she was optimistic and joyful, and even stated she was glad that things worked out the way they have, because she’s meant to be right where she is. She continued, “I wouldn’t change a thing about my situation.” Not wanting to be negative Nancy, I told her, “I hear people say they wouldn’t change anything about their journey, especially the ups and downs, because it made them better.
However, I can’t say the same. I’ve been through a lot of hardships, particularly within the past year, and I don’t believe if I had the chance to do it all over, I would. The amount of pain I went through was absolutely unbearable and indescribable, so much so, I wouldn’t want to ever experience it again.” It wasn’t until after we ended that call, that I realized, the pain made me. It made me stronger. It made me tougher. It made me resilient. It made me not give up, and most importantly, it made me who I am!
We won’t always understand our circumstances, or like them, but no matter what we go through, it’s only making us better.
Until next time my NOTE takers!
